Starting from the mechanical scheme of the Alfetta, Alfa Romeo launched the replacement model for the Giulia GT: the Alfetta GT.

Born as a collaboration between Italdesign by Giorgetto Giugiaro and Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, this new compact coupé with a refined design had sufficient room for 4 passengers.

Powered by the Bialbero Alfa Romeo with different displacement (1.6, 1.8 and 2.0), in 1980 the GTV6 was launched, easily recognazible by the plastic bumpers, the wide side modlings and the raised hood to make room for the new V6.

With this engine, the Alfetta GT won 4 European Touring Car Championships, from 1982 to 1985. Other wins came from national championships, like the 1983 and 84 French Touring Car Championships and the 1983 British Touring Car Championship.

The production of the Alfetta GT ended in 1987 after 136.275 cars made.
