Canon FTb QL

Canon FTb QL camera, 1971, Japan

Introduced in March 1971 alongside the professional Canon F-1, the Canon FTb QL was designed for advanced amateur photographers. An evolution of the earlier Canon FT, it featured the new FD lens system, allowing full-aperture light metering while retaining the same lens mount.
Built with a sturdy, fully mechanical design, the FTb QL offered shutter speeds from 1 second to 1/1000 second and included Canon’s convenient Quick Loader (QL) film-loading system. In 1973, a revised version added several improvements, including shutter speed display in the viewfinder and enhanced controls.
Reliable, durable, and easy to use, the Canon FTb QL became one of Canon’s most popular reflex cameras of the 1970s.
