Alfa Romeo “2000”, 1961

The 2000 model was the logical evolution of the 1900, which had been a fundamental car for the future of Alfa Romeo during the difficult post-war economical period.

The first car of the Arese company with a monocoque chassis, the 1900 had a brilliant 4-cylinder engine, which was particularly appreciated by the general public, but also by drivers with racing needs and tuners. The evolution of the 1900 led to the engine of the 2000, which was more suitable to the changed economical requests: family and touring rather than sport.

The 2000 was launched in 1957 at the Turin Motor Show; the dimensions were generous in order to fit two bench seats, one in the front and one in the rear, that were big enough to host six passengers. The 2000 model became a sort of status symbol for the new Italian middle class, a beautiful car, reliable and powerful.

Later on, other models were made like the Sprint (a coupe designed by Bertone) and the Spider (designed by Carrozzeria Touring).
