The little Bolognese firm succeeded in what Fiat, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, and Bugatti failed. The same car, again driven by Wilbur Shaw, won the 1940 Indy edition too and entered the automobile <strong>legend<\/strong> as for the first time in the most important American race history a car won two editions.<br \/>\nTo remember these triumphs, <strong>Maserati called \u201cIndy\u201d the car introduced at the 1968 Turin Motor Show<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe Indy was the obvious evolution of the Mexico, that is a fast coup\u00e9 also comfortable for four people. During the production years, the most important modifications concerned the engine; in <strong>1970<\/strong> it was enlarged to <strong>4.700cc<\/strong> and the car got the name <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museonicolis.com\/en\/maserati-1970-indy-4700\/\">Indy America<\/a>; since <strong>1973<\/strong> only the version fitted with the <strong>4.900cc<\/strong> engine (the same unit already fitted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museonicolis.com\/en\/maserati-1972-ghibli-4700\/\">Ghibli<\/a> SS) remained in production.
