The first sound boxes were made by Swiss clock makers in the late 1700 and, from the beginning of the 19th century, those with the sound-production cylinders became popular household instruments. Later in the 19th century, the sound boxes using replaceable holed disks were preferred, as they permitted listening to different tunes at a very low cost. (Juke box 800, musical boxes, singing birds, disks + cylinders).
