Writing, its history

The Nicolis Museum has dedicated a small but precious collection to typewriters.
Back in 1700, there were the first attempts at making these, to enable the blind to write, while we know that the first typewriter was attributed to the Italian, Ravizza from Novara.

Industrial production of typewriters began in the United States in 1874, but only in 1898 did Underwood make the first machine with visible writing. There are around 80 models in the Museum from the 19th to the middle of the 20th century, with their curious and ingenious systems for mechanical writing.
