Hammond n.1 1880-1884

Name :Hammond

Type : N. 1

Year of production :1880/1881

Invented by :J.B.Hammond. Telegrapher during the American Civil War, he was one of the first to realise that a typewriter would be a valid help in his job. E.J.Manning helped Hammond to make the typewriter, which was then patented in 1880 and put on the market in 1881 by the “Hammond Typewriter Company” in New York.

Country  :USA

Curios :The Hammond was one of the most interesting typewriters in history: the keys were entirely made in ebony and laid in a typical “Ideal” keyboard on two semicircular rows. Model no. 1 is now a very rare piece and the mechanism has a very smart wood cover.
